What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Arthrex System?
The PRP Arthrex system refers to two different products offered by Arthrex, a medical device company.
The first is the Arthrex Angel System, which is a fully automated system that uses 3-sensor technology and one-button automation to prepare customized platelet-rich plasma (PRP) formulations. This system is capable of delivering platelet concentrations up to 18 times baseline with adjustable leukocyte concentrations.
The second is the Arthrex ACP Double-Syringe System, which is used to prepare autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from a small sample of blood at the patient’s point of care. This system uses a double-barreled syringe to speed up the preparation process and lower the risk of contamination due to exposure to air.
What can PRP be used for?
PRP prepared using Arthrex systems can potentially be used for a range of conditions such as male pattern baldness, musculoskeletal injuries, knee, chronic tendon injuries like tennis elbow or jumpers knee, to skin rejuvenation and antiaging treatments. Adding PRP injections to a treatment regimen can help to stimulate the healing process, decrease pain, and enable a return to activities sooner.
What is the process?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance created by spinning a patient’s blood in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood components and concentrate them within the plasma. The process involves taking a blood sample from the patient and placing it in a centrifuge that rapidly spins the sample, separating out the platelets and concentrating them within the plasma. PRP is a component of the patient’s blood that contains special factors or proteins that help to promote healing when injected.
Overall, the potential benefits of using the Arthrex PRP systems may include more potent PRP formulations, faster and safer preparation, and potential use for a variety of medical conditions. However, it’s important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with Dr. Siva at EliteMD Aesthetics where he’ll be happy to answer any of your questions.
